She/Her
5 years in care
Asiah is a passionate advocate for foster youth and community change, drawing from her own experiences in the Massachusetts foster care system. After entering care at six months and returning at 13, she found stability with her foster mother, who nurtured her love for the arts and empowered her to overcome stereotypes. Asiah has served as Co-chair of Rise Above's Youth Advisory Board and has been actively involved with the Department of Children and Families, presenting a policy proposal on life skills training for youth aging out of care. Currently the Mattapan Liaison for Mayor Wu's Office of Neighborhood Services, she aims to influence policy and ensure the voices of foster youth are heard. With aspirations of pursuing a degree in Psychology and potentially attending law school or obtaining a Master's in Policy, Asiah is committed to advocating for meaningful changes in foster care reform, inspired by Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley’s belief in elevating those closest to the pain in policymaking.
